Hartsville United Methodist Church Delivers

Chicken and Noodles - Hoosier style

Saturday, April 5, 2014, the Hartsville UMC followed through with their promise of another divine offering of their annual Chicken Noodle Dinner. This one is #24 and that's pretty impressive for a church in a small village in South Central Indiana.

Driving to the church was an easy 15-minute journey along Hwy 46, east of Columbus, Indiana. Looking at the cars parked for a block around in all directions, we thought we might have to stand in line. Not so. We were greeted at the door and shown the way to the church basement. Red-shirted members showed us where to get our drinks and then the amble food table. Wow! Chicken and noodles, green beans, mashed potatoes and a choice of salad, slaw or jello. And, of course, homemade desserts!

My friend Karen Lowe had enough to take home for another delicious meal. Mike, my husband, was not disappointed with the ample servings on his plate, either.

Introducing Church Suppers...Indiana

Who can remember the days when a church supper was simply divine dining?  Wow, I remember fondly Mrs. Hasselbrink's chicken and noodles, Mrs. Elliott's dinner rolls made from mashed potatoes and Mrs. Ahlemeyer's rhubarb pie! Well, those days are not over; you just have to look a little harder to find them.  Fish Fry's, Salad luncheons, Chili-Cook-offs, Chicken and Noodle Suppers or Soup Suppers have become fundraisers for mission trips, youth activities, food pantries, homeless shelters and other activities or programs that promote better living for all.

We hope to provide a space where Indiana churches can promote their church suppers and we can find alternatives to the usual restaurant fare.  We will add church supper details as we receive them. Please leave a comment if you would like to add your church supper information. Bon Appetit!
